Hatchback

Little car of blue with a four on the floor

In the seat next to you, couldn’t ask for more

Two kids in the back, stuff stuffed to the hilt

There’s nothin’ we ever lacked

Best little car ever built

Roll down window air, all natural naugahyde

Every body stared, at our little blue ride

Perfect poetry, down the road in perfect rhyme

Four banger buzzin’ like a bee

We took our own sweet time

I want my hatchback back, and my dear little wife

I want my hatchback back, oh man what a life

In the seat next to you, I was feelin’ allright

There’s nothin’ we ever lacked

I want my hatchback back

Just a little bit more, we’re pretty close to there

It was a perfect fit drove that car everywhere

With the old radio on a late night highway

You kept us steady as we go

Come back to me and stay

I want my hatchback back, and my dear little wife

I want my hatchback back, oh man what a life

In the seat next to you, I was feelin’ allright

There’s nothin’ we ever lacked

I want my hatchback back

Rpm's a 'risin runnin’ through the gears

There's an open road ahead

It goes on for years

I want my hatchback back, and my dear little wife

I want my hatchback back, oh man what a life

In the seat next to you, I was feelin’ allright

There’s nothin’ we ever lacked

I want my hatchback back

Blues Of July

There’s a hay moon a’risin’ in the heat of summertime

The spirit of the season, so high in the sky

Casting moon shadows in the soft evenin’ light

The hoot owl is wonderin’ who’s missin’ tonight

Blues of July, blues of July

I wish that ol’ hay moon would fall from the sky

It just reminds me of what I can’t deny

You left me here with the blues of July

Couples are couplin’ down by the lake

The hay moon is watchin’ for heaven’s sake

It still remembers another lost time

When we were together in the heat of the night

Blues of July, blues of July

I wish that ol’ hay moon would fall from the sky

It just reminds me of what I can’t deny

You left me here with the blues of July

Who, who’s missin’ the hoot owl wants to know

The hay moon wont answer, it’s time to let go, of the

Blues of July, blues of July

I wish that ol’ hay moon would fall from the sky

It just reminds me of what I can’t deny

You left me here with the blues of July

You left me here with the blues of July

Could Have Done Better

Some say at the end there’s a light

So we know which way to go

I’m not sayin’ that they’re not right

I’m just sayin’, I don’t know

What I know is true, what I know is true

I could’ve done better, could’ve done better with you

Don’t like when the evenin’ sun sets

Can’t tell where I belong

Seems like I just can’t forget

Rememberin’ seems all wrong

What I know is true, what I know is true

I could’ve done better, could’ve done better with you

Leaves are fallin’ all over the yard

Empty branches in the breeze

Didn’t know leavin’ would be this hard

Pickin’ up pieces down on my knees

Feel out of touch wherever I go

Memories keep bruisin’ my mind

Can’t turn my back when the cold wind blows

All I can see is what I left behind

There’s a wind blowin’ in from the west

Stings my waterin’ eyes

Seems like I just  can’t forget

But rememberin’ seems all wrong

But what I know is true, what I know is true

I could’ve done better, could’ve done better with you

The Girl From Grand Marais

Waves are breakin’ on cobblestones

Like thunder from above

I stand on the shore and remember

What it was like to be in love

Everything seems so out of place

Time goes by so slow

She stood here with me once before

She’s here somewhere I know

Callin’ me back, callin’ me back

To a shining blue lake

Callin’ me back, callin’ me back

The girl from Grand Marais

Her shadows playing hide and seek

In the birch and maple trees

I hear her laughter in the waves

And her whisper in the breeze

Now the trail is disappearing

The cold’s too much to bear

And the wind just won’t stop blowing

But I know she’s here somewhere

Callin’ me back, callin’ me back

To a shining blue lake

Callin’ me back, callin’ me back

The girl from Grand Marais

There’s a stillness all around me

That only I can hear

If I got lost in it forever

Would it bring her near

Now the trail is disappearing

The cold’s too much to bear

And the wind just won’t stop blowing

But I know she’s here somewhere

Callin’ me back, callin’ me back

To a shining blue lake

Callin’ me back, callin’ me back

The girl from Grand Marai

Nothing On Earth

Nothing on earth, nothing on earth

Nothing compares with His love

I spent my whole life a’lookin’

Still felt like I was alone

When all of my prayers could be answered

In that little white church way back home

All around me the olds folks are waitin’

‘neath the shade of the old oak tree

Some day I know I’ll get back home

Where His love will set me free

We can’t walk on water

We can’t see way up above

Nothing on earth, nothing on earth

Nothing compares with His love

My little boat’s been a’rockin’

The water is rough on this lake

There’s endless deep way below me

And the cold waves keep me awake

All around me is wide open water

Sometimes I can’t take anymore

I know if I keep on rowin’

His love will guide me to the shore

We can’t walk on water

We can’t see way up above

Nothing on earth, nothing on earth

Nothing compares with His love

Beautiful Dream

There’s a fine line between dreamin’ and believin’

Some things just aren’t what they seem

Should I believe what I’m seein’

Is it real or is it a dream

Dreamin’ believin’ I couldn’t decide

I knew I needed her by my side

Dreamin’ with her arms around me

Believin’ with her love to ground me

Letting her sweet laugh surround me

Believin’ a beautiful dream

Now I’m lost between lovin’ and leavin’

I don’t know which way to turn

Once we had some smooth sailin’

Now I dream of the way we once were

Dreamin believin’ is no easy ride

I really needed her by my side, I was

Dreamin’ with her arms around me

Believin’ with her love to ground me

Letting her sweet laugh surround me

Believin’ a beautiful dream

Dreamin’ believin’ she showed me the way

I had to let go but I can still say, we were

Dreamin’ with her arms around me

Believin’ with her love to ground me

Letting her sweet laugh surround me

Believin’ a beautiful dream

Believin’ a beautiful dream

Gotta Move On

Walkin’ down a dirt road got a stone in my shoe

Glad it won’t let me walk back to you

Gonna keep a’goin’ in the dust and the mud

Livin’ in the moment ain’t no loss or no gain

Gotta keep goin’ gonna get past the pain

I’ll know my journey’s ended when my shoe’s filled with blood

Gotta move on, gotta move on, gotta move on

Been walkin’ this road alone

Gotta move on, gotta move on, gotta move on

Get outa my comfort zone

I don’t need no pity, I don’t need no sympathy

Ain’t gonna feed my appetite for apathy

Gonna make the best of what’s left of me

It’s over when it’s over all that’s left is déjà vu

Need a change of scenery, need a change of attitude

Love it or hate it, that’s the way it must be

Gotta move on, gotta move on, gotta move on

Get outa my comfort zone

It’s time to turn the page look for bluer skies

If nothin’ ever changed there’d be no butterflies

Gotta move on, gotta move on, gotta move on

Been walkin’ this road alone

Gotta move on, gotta move on, gotta move on

Get outa my comfort zone

Rpm’s a’risin’ runnin’ through the gears

There’s an open road ahead

It goes on for years

I want my hatchback back...

2 Step Process

Rollin’ down an old West Texas country road.

I could hear twin fiddles playin’ San Antonio Rose

Comin’ from a honky-tonk with a Lone Star sign

I did not know why but I knew that I just had to go inside

The place was packed the band was goin’ strong

A little cowgirl cutie caught my eye before too long

I knew I had to meet that sweet young thing

The bartender read my mind he said she’s hooked on Western Swing

And I think that gal might have her eye on you

Listen and I’ll tell you what to do

He said it’s a two step process it ain’t that hard to learn

Two steps long and two steps short then swing her through a turn

A few times more around the floor and you’ll be makin’ progress

To win her heart you gotta start with a two step process

She didn’t seem to mind my two left feet

By the time the band played faded love we were dancin’ cheek to cheek

She made me feel like I was Fred Astaire

My feet stayed in my cowboy boots but I was floatin’ on air

And that little gal’s my partner yet today

When they ask how does it last I smile and say

It’s a two step process it ain’t that hard to learn

Two steps long and two steps short then swing her through a turn

A few times more around the floor and you’ll be makin’ progress

To win her heart you gotta start with a two step process

So if you’re in West Texas some fine day

Love could be just one two step away

If that’s what your quest is when you’re down in Texas

It’s a two step process

That Crazy Song

I threw away her picture when she walked out of my life

But I see her face everywhere when I’m home at night

Starin’ at the ceilin’ talkin’ to the walls

Kind of scared of leavin’ just in case she calls

And that crazy song keeps playin’ the one by Patsy Cline

Words so true just what I’m goin’ through I remember every line

Hopin’ believin’ prayin’ she’ll be back some time

I’m just crazy ‘bout that girl and I can’t get Crazy out of my mind

I wonder if she’s lonely or does she feel set free

And I wonder if she’s wonderin’ what’s goin’ on with me

Well I must be goin’ crazy ‘cause I sit here every night

Patsy sings and I keep wishin’ things would have turned out right

And that crazy song keeps playin’ the one by Patsy Cline

Words so true just what I’m going through I remember every line

Hopin’, believin’, prayin’ she’ll be back sometime

I’m just crazy ‘bout that girl and I can’t get Crazy out of my mind

We’ll I might as well pack my bags and go

I guess she’ll never change her mind

Some things a man just can’t control

So I’m walkin’ out that door, ain’t gonna play that song no more

And I’ll probably be just fine

But that crazy song keeps playin’, runnin’ through my mind

I’m just crazy ‘bout that girl and I can’t get Crazy out of my mind

From The Eyebrows Up

I’ve never been much of a ladies’ man that’s just not my style

But I’ve always had an eye for a pretty girl, like any other guy

Experience has taught me to look under that lovely skin

Pretty is nice but I’m thinkin’ twice before the next time I jump in

That’s why I’m lookin’ at my women from the eyebrows up

More and more as I get older

I’m now convinced that beauty’s in the eye of the beholder

I’ve overlooked the best part of the gals that I’ve looked over

Now I’m lookin’ at my women from the eyebrows up

More and more as I get older

A little gray matter is mostly what matters don’t have to be large amounts

Cause when love is a matter of mind over matter it’s what’s on top that counts

Drop dead gorgeous still turns my head a little every now and then

But I’ve rearranged my priorities so I can fall in love again

That’s why I’m lookin’ at my women from the eyebrows up

More and more as I get older

I’m now convinced that beauty’s in the eye of the beholder

I’ve overlooked the best part of the gals that I’ve looked over

Now I’m lookin’ at my women from the eyebrows up

More and more as I get older

We get old too soon and smart too late

But at last I’ve learned to appreciate

Lookin’ at my women from the eyebrows up

More and more as I get older

I’ve overlooked the best part of the gals that I’ve looked over

Now I’m lookin’ at my women from the eyebrows up

I still haven’t given up

I’m lookin’ at my women from the eyebrows up

More and more as I get older

Navajo Moon

A cowboy rode out one night by the full moonlight

Not knowing what he needed to find

On his long lonely quest he laid down to rest

And tried to ease his unsettled mind

The moon watched him weep while he fell asleep

By the fire and that’s when he saw her

A Navajo maiden appeared by the lake in

The light of the moon on the water

She said this is the Great Spirit’s Night of the Navajo Moon

And when moon dreamers dream tonight the dream will come true

The light of the moon in my eyes will set you free

You’ll find a home soon ‘neath the Navajo moon

Cowboy come with me

He wasn’t afraid when the Navajo maiden

Beckoned to him from the shadows

They rode out of sight along a ribbon of light

On the lake where the full moon glows

An when the full moon is high they ride in the light

Of the shimmering moon on the water

His mind at peace he’s found sweet release

For he rides with the Great Spirit’s daughter

She said this is the Great Spirit’s Night of the Navajo Moon

And when moon dreamers dream tonight the dream will come true

The light of the moon in my eyes will set you free

You’ll find a home soon ‘neath the Navajo moon

Cowboy come with me

A campfire dies a coyote cries a cowboy awakes from a dream

He looks to the sky two silhouettes gallop by in the light of the golden moonbeam

He knows that’s the sign that when it’s his time he’ll hear a sweet heavenly tune

His burden relieved because he believes in the Night of the Navajo Moon

She said this is the Great Spirit’s Night of the Navajo Moon

And when moon dreamers dream tonight the dream will come true

The light of the moon in my eyes will set you free

You’ll find a home soon ‘neath the Navajo Moon

Cowboy come with me

He was born again when he found a friend ‘neath the Navajo moon

Navajo moon, Navajo moon, Navajo moon

Island Serenade

I need a little sun and sand and a margarita in my hand

And soft Jamaican moonlight afterglow

From Key Largo to Kokomo

Let’s all go down to the islands forget the plans you made

Let’s all go down to the islands and sing the island serenade

Let’s all go down to the islands and watch the palm trees grow

Let’s all go down to the islands and take life real slow

I can see clearly now what I couldn’t see

It’s not to worry man just be happy

Reggae woman dancin’ by the sea

Caribbean rhythm got a hold on me

Let’s all go down to the islands, forget the plans you made

Let’s all go down to the islands, and sing the island serenade

Don’t let your troubles get the best of you

We can only do whatever we can do

Everybody needs to get away

To a quiet little sun filled emerald bay

Let’s all go down to the islands forget the plans you made

Let’s all go down to the islands and sing the island serenade

La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

La, la, la, la, la, la

La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

La, la, la, la, la, la, la

Let’s all go down to the islands

And sing the island serenade

Liberty Road

Carry me away liberty road

Got some money from the bank this mornin’

Filled my Harley up with gas

Got a half a dozen places circled on a map

I’m gonna get gone there’ll be no findin’ me

Gonna ride and ride and ride ‘til I feel free

Liberty road carry me away

Liberty road rescue me today

You own my heart my mind my soul

Carry me away liberty road

Like a flower in a garden we need a little room

We need a little sunshine if we’re ever gonna bloom

I’m not the kind to whine and complain

But I know when to get out of the rain

Liberty road carry me away

Liberty road rescue me today

You own my heart my mind my soul

Carry me away liberty road

Red orange desert sunsets, white sand beaches by the sea

Winding mountain highways waitin’ there for me

Liberty road carry me away, liberty road rescue me today

You own my heart my mind my soul

Carry me away liberty road

Liberty road, liberty road, liberty road, liberty road

That's My Heart

It’s a fact of life we’ve all felt

You don’t get to choose the cards that you’re dealt

So I gave you my heart when you couldn’t win at solitaire

And now you’ve got a winnin’ hand if you just give it half a chance

When we get together babe, we make a pretty good pair

Cause that’s my heart you’re holdin’ in your hand

And you got it from a lonely man

A king for a queen who’s got nothin’ left to discard

That’s my heart you’re holdin’ in your hand

Give it back to me or give it a chance

Or it’s over before it starts, remember that’s my heart

There are no guarantees,

The odds will do as they please

Lovers can never predict how the cards will fall

But that heart you’re holdin’s gonna bleed, if it doesn’t get what it needs

The bets are down babe it’s time to raise or call

Cause that’s my heart you’re holdin’ in your hand

And you got it from a lonely man

A king for a queen who’s got nothin’ left to discard

That’s my heart you’re holdin’ in your hand

Give it back to me or give it a chance

Or it’s over before it starts, remember that’s my heart

We got our eyes wide open, and our backs to the wind

Let’s give chance a chance to be our friend

Cause that’s my heart you’re holdin’ in your hand

And you got it from a lonely man

A king for a queen who’s got nothing ‘ left to discard

That’s my heart you’re holdin’ in your hand

Give it back to me or give it a chance or it’s over before it starts

Remember that’s my heart

Or it’s over before it starts, remember that’s my heart

Captain Morgan's Curse

Down in the islands for a holiday walkin’ in the warm white sand

Island man in the palm tree shade holdin’ his head in his hands

I said what’s the matter man you don’t look so good , what could the problem be

He said I party last night drink too much rum now Captain Morgan play a trick on me

He said oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh I just couldn’t feel worse

Oh, oh, oh oh, oh, oh It’s Captain Morgan’s curse

Oh, oh, oh oh, oh, oh someone call the hearse

On, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh it’s Captain Morgan’s curse

Evenin’ come we watch the sun go down by the fire on the beach

Guitars play we pass the jug around and everybody’s so happy

Mornin’ come I got the wooden head, island man said he got you too

You should remember what I said now Captain Morgan play a trick on you

I said oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, I just couldn’t feel worse

Oh, oh, oh it’s Captain Morgan’s curse

I said oh, oh, oh oh, oh, oh someone call the hearse

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh it’s Captain Morgan’s curse

When you go down to the islands, show the Captain some respect

If you don’t heed my warnin’ your head’ll get shipwrecked

You’ll say oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, I just couldn’t feel worse

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh it’s Captain Morgan’s curse

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, someone call the hearse

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh it’s Captain Morgan’s curse

Oh how my head hurts, someone call the hearse, it’s Captain Morgan’s curse

Sands Of Cimarron

On the Santa Fe Trail in 1881,

A posse after me I was a wanted man

At sundown I rode into Cimarron,

A lawless outlaws’ town where I could make a stand

A woman stood alone on the dusty street,

I could hear her name whispered in the wind

My spirit soared when she smiled at me,

I smiled back at her, I knew I’d found a friend

She was not like any woman I had known,

She did not judge the man I had become

She knew how to reach into my soul

For the peace I could not find ‘til I came to Cimarron

Cimarron wind whisperin’ her name

Cimmaron sky holdin’ back the rain

Cimmaron moon, lookin’ down upon

Blood stains on the sands of Cimarron

One rainy night I’m in the St. James Hotel

Standin’ at the bar when they caught up with me

I could fight or run but I knew well

I’d join the ghosts of men who’d died there before me

Then I saw her face in the mirror behind the bar

Somehow I heard her voice whisperin’ to me

Lay your pistol down you won’t be harmed

I smiled at her she smiled back at me

No one moved no one took a breath

Almost like a ghost had just appeared

I faced the men unarmed I had no fear of death

They backed out the door still starin’ at the mirror

Cimarron wind whisperin’ her name

Cimarron sky brings the cold hard rain

Cimarron moon lookin’ down upon

Blood washin’ from the sands of Cimarron

How it happened never was explained

She could not be seen anywhere in that saloon

The men rode off into the cold hard rain

As storm clouds rolled away from the golden autumn moon

Ghosts still walk the halls of that hotel

Was she one of them when her image was revealed

Did I imagine her I still can’t tell

But that woman saved my life what could be more real

Cimarron wind whisperin’ her name

Cimarron sky holdin’ back the rain

Cimarron moon lookin’ down upon

The bloodless unstained sands of Cimarron

Cimarron, Cimarron, Cimarron

Angel On My Shoulder

Seems the years have gone by in kind of a hurry

So many tomorrows are now yesterdays

Got some things left undone but I ain’t gonna worry

I don’t let old passions smolder

I’ve got a life time filled with memories

And an angel on my shoulder

These lines in my face could tell you some stories

Of good times and bad times and each one’s been earned

I would not give them up for money or glory

I don’t care if I am getting’ older

I’ve got a life time filled with memories

And an angel on my shoulder

Sometimes I’m a weed, sometimes I’m a flower

Sometimes I just get it wrong

But I add some sugar when sweet turns to sour

And I just keep pluggin’ along

These days I can laugh at things that once scared me

Now I think I’m ready for what comes my way

The hard knocks of life have kind of prepared me

Fact is I think that I’m getting’ bolder

I’ve got a lifetime filled with memories

And an angel on my shoulder

Think I’ll just kick back before happy hour

And wait for my beer to get colder
